My journey from Software to Silver~the story of Enchanté

Sukaina Abbas

In a world that often demands rigid career paths, my story is a bit of a dazzling outlier. My journey began in the logical realm of software engineering but found its ultimate expression in the captivating world of jewelry design. As a woman breaking into a traditionally male-dominated industry, I’ve faced my share of challenges. Yet, my determination to succeed has never wavered. My role as a mentor and advocate for women's empowerment is rooted in my belief in lifting others up. Jewelry design became a positive distraction during a challenging period for me—a form of self-healing that transformed into my passion.

My educational background is in software engineering, with a bachelor's degree from the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences. This foundation, though seemingly distant from the arts of jewelry, provided me with a unique advantage. My degree has notably helped me address technological challenges, from navigating e-commerce platforms to facilitating digitalisation and payment processes. The skills I acquired through my education have not only facilitated the digital aspects of my business but also enriched my network with tech-savvy individuals who have been invaluable in overcoming the challenges faced by my growing enterprise.

Initially, jewelry design was a therapeutic endeavor, but the WomenX course by Institute of Business Administration Karachi—a World Bank-sponsored initiative aimed at training women—gave me the structure and knowledge I needed to transform my passion into a viable business. It was during this period that I registered Enchanté as a sole proprietorship and truly embarked on my journey as an entrepreneur. I've encountered numerous stereotypes, but I've always chosen to focus on my goals. By sharing my experiences, I hope to inspire other women to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. To further hone my craft, I also completed my AJP (Applied Jewelry Professional) diploma and various courses at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) including a Gemstone Identification Lab at GIA London.

For me, failure is not a setback but a crucial stepping stone to success. I encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to embrace failure and learn from it. The current era presents an unparalleled opportunity for pursuing entrepreneurship, especially with the rapid advancements in technology. If someone is opting for a divergent field, meticulous research, comprehensive surveys, and consultations with mentors or peers are imperative. My advice to individuals considering entrepreneurship, particularly in a field different from their academic background, emphasizes the importance of due diligence and planning.

Enchanté: Evolution and Vision

Enchanté, my brainchild, is more than just a jewelry label; it's a philosophy embodied in every piece. A harmonious fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics, the brand resonates with a diverse clientele. I believe in the versatility and affordability of silver, which is why our tagline, "Silver is the New Gold," has redefined the perception of this precious metal. From its inception, Enchanté has been guided by core values of excellence in design, quality, and service. Over time, the brand's vision has evolved to encompass sustainable fashion and the preservation of local artisans' invaluable talent.

Enchanté seamlessly integrates the intricate details of traditional jewelry making techniques highlighting craftsmanship from the golden eras. A prime example of this cultural fusion is the famous Meenakari and Kundan jewelry, popularized by the Mughals. Our designs are a celebration of heritage, infused with a modern spirit. We're committed to preserving traditional techniques while creating pieces that resonate with today's fashion-forward individuals. Enchanté's commitment to creating unique, meaningful pieces is evident in our custom-made designs. Each piece of jewelry tells a story, translating the client's sentiments into wearable art. Often, we get requests for particular gemstones or qualities within a gemstone that hold significance for the wearer. This personalized approach ensures that every piece of Enchanté jewelry resonates with the wearer on a deeper level. The brand's success is a reflection of my dedication, my team's talent, and the enduring appeal of our designs.

As Enchanté continues to grow, I remain committed to my vision of blending tradition with modernity while empowering women in the process. Our journey is one of continuous learning and innovation, and I am excited to explore new opportunities both locally and internationally.

Join us as we continue to push boundaries, create beautiful jewelry, and empower the next generation of artisans and entrepreneurs.
